ΔKE 2011 DUES NOTICE
Dues 2011 Notice — We count on your support
This year we would like to see more alumni supporting Theta Zeta. We feel the number of alumni supporters is as important as the dollar amount contributed which ranges from $100 to $1,000 or more. We appreciate anything that fits your budget and are grateful for all donations which help us with our ongoing needs – we are spending approximately $50,000 this summer on important repairs and additions (see below).
Lion Trophy Scholarship Winner — Theta Zeta
This past year Theta Zeta posted the highest grade point average of all ΔKE chapters – a significant accomplishment considering the superior academic standing enjoyed at Cal. The chapter certainly has its priorities in the right order: scholarship and fellowship first, followed closely by an active social life. Congratulations to the boys of Theta Zeta!
37 Dekes Return for Rush this August
With 37 returning and an anticipated pledge class of over 10, we will accomplish our goal of 45 or more members. The house will be filled with enough men to allow us to balance the budget and continue to pay down our loan (by the end of this year, the loan will be paid down to $40,000). If you have any prospects, please email their names and comments to the Rush Chairmen (Robert Kauth: rkauth@berkeley.edu, 707-236-2074; Hunter Bohlen: hunterbohlen@comcast.net, 703-470-3828) or any of
the alumni officers.
Summer Construction
To make better use of all the wasted space in the basement we are adding a bedroom behind the kitchen. The unit will also have a half bath and should be a very popular room (in addition to increasing total rent collected). The ancient walk-in refrigerator gave out a few years ago so part of the project includes reclaiming that space. A new stove, freezer and a large TV have also been purchased. Window replacement is ongoing as is replacing worn out furniture. All of this will cost approximately $50,000.
Greek System Faces Continued Harassment from the University and City
Many leading fraternities have had their UC recognition pulled, mostly due to what the University describes as “wild and noisy parties”. Berkeley police are giving out fines of $750, which quickly escalate up to $2,500. According to all in the Greek System these fines are totally unfair and examining the record of fines shows the Greeks are being specifically targeted by the police. Theta Zeta has received notices, but at least WE know the chapter’s priorities are in order. The Greek System has a blue-ribbon alumni committee confronting the University regarding this issue. More info will be shared as it becomes available.
Thank you to all the alumni who donated last year, and we hope that you will continue to help support Theta Zeta.
