A Letter From the President

Dear Brothers of Delta Kappa Epsilon,

I am writing on behalf of the current actives of Theta Zeta to share our recent accomplishments from the past three semesters. First off, our 2013 fall rush was a major success, bringing in 13 new members with majors spanning from Economics, to Computer Science, to English. All have already shown great leadership potential, and many have already been elected to positions like Social Chair, Pledge Trainer, and House Manager.

Thanks to the planning of the alumni board, the spring semester featured our Alumni Banquet at the famous John’s Grill in San Francisco. The event went spectacularly and featured an impressive numbers of both actives and alumni – 100 in attendance.

This past summer, the alumni board generously flew out Brother Charles Shirley to the DKE National Convention, held in Danville, Kentucky. He was able to meet Dekes from across the country and accept the award on behalf of Theta Zeta for third place in the Scholarship category.

Fall rush August 2014 proved, yet again, to be an overwhelming success. The current pledge class holds 12 quality gentlemen who have already shown commitment to becoming quality brothers in Theta Zeta. Among them is a member of the Cal Rugby team, and an exchange student from Leeds, England. The home towns of the current class vary from San Francisco to Sacramento, Los Gatos, Mission Viejo, Chapel Hill North Carolina, Irvine and Spring Valley. The schools they attended were highly rated public and private schools – a very good mix.

The fall semester has already been quite eventful. Our annual Parents Dinner was held in early October, allowing parents to come and visit the house while being treated to a fantastic meal prepared by our house chef. We have also had the pleasure of hosting alumni for the 2014 California Golden Bears football season. The season’s home games will conclude with the BIG GAME on November 22, and we hope that as many alumni as possible will be in attendance. The barbecue will be fired up along with a catered lunch plus a Dixie-Land band.

Actives of Theta Zeta have continued to excel in both academics and extracurriculars. Our top scholar sports a 3.9 grade point average! Another member was selected earlier this semester to present the results of his summer fellowship to a university panel, and another brother enters his third semester in charge of the Stiles Hall LeConte Elementary School Tutoring Program, a student-run volunteer group. The brotherhood and camaraderie among members of the house is thriving and growing with every semester.

In the Bonds,

Spencer Woo ’15
