Rush

What is Fraternity Rush?

Fraternity rush is a week where students interested in joining a fraternity can check out all of the chapters and meet the brothers. Cal is home to some 35 fraternities, and rush week is designed for interested students to be able to visit all the chapters and decide which is the right one for them. Active brothers in chapters will typically refer to rush week simply as “rush”, and prospective members as “rushees”. Although it is difficult to remember everyone’s name when you’re rushing, don’t feel intimidated or nervous – just be yourself and have a good time. Rush is open to all registered students on campus, regardless of class. At the end of rush week, you will receive a “bid” -an invitation to join- from the brothers in the chapter. There is no commitment to join or accept the bid, and you may receive bids from multiple fraternities. The most important thing it to accept the bid from the fraternity that suits you best.
